DAWN FEATHER
INTRO
I’m Dawn Feather, a Yorkshire-based editor and director with nearly 20 years’ experience shaping stories for film, theatre, brands and the cultural sector. Freelance since 2005, I’ve cut award-winning features, collaborated on commercial campaigns, and directed documentaries and arts projects that balance emotional truth with visual creativity. Whether I’m in the edit suite or behind the camera, I bring clarity, pace and an instinct for storytelling that connects with audiences.

EDITOR
Editing is where I started and remains at the heart of my practice. I’ve worked across feature films, scripted drama, commercials and branded content, alongside documentaries and arts projects. Comfortable in Avid, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, I’m as confident shaping raw rushes into compelling narratives as I am overseeing smooth post-production workflows. Based in my fully equipped garden office in Yorkshire, I’m set up for seamless remote editing and can also host directors, producers or assistant editors to collaborate on site.
FILMMAKER
As a director, I focus on stories that resonate. My documentaries (Joy O’ Dance, Memory, Dance of Hope) celebrate community voices and Yorkshire landscapes, while my commercial and cultural collaborations across theatre, museums and the arts show how creative storytelling can elevate campaigns and live performance. My films have been selected for screening at UK festivals, reaching new audiences and sparking conversations beyond their original communities. I am equally at home directing interviews, movement-driven visuals or branded content, always with a commitment to finding the emotional heart of a story and presenting it with clarity, pace and creativity.
EDUCATOR
Alongside freelance work, I teach editing and experimental film as an Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University. It’s a flexible, freelance role that fits around my professional practice, giving me the chance to share knowledge without taking me away from industry projects. I also lead post-production training with Screen Yorkshire, contributing to their Screen Diversity Programme and Skills Bootcamps. I really enjoy working with the Screen Yorkshire team to help emerging talent build confidence, gain skills and access opportunities in film and television.
